Claudio Bohórquez Performs Chamber Music Concert at Mendelssohn-Remise
Claudio Bohórquez, professor at the Chamber Classics Festival, recently appeared in concert alongside violinist Oscar Bohórquez in an evening dedicated to the intimate and expressive repertoire for violin and cello. The concert took place at the Mendelssohn-Remise and was organized by Cornelie von Bismarck, bringing together music, history, and chamber dialogue in a uniquely resonant setting.
The program explored the rich tradition of duo writing across different eras and styles. It featured Alessandro Rolla’s Duet for Violin and Cello in B-flat major and Giovanni Battista Cirri’s Duetto for Violin and Cello, Op. 12 No. 4, works that highlighted the elegance and virtuosity of early string writing. The performers also presented Ludwig van Beethoven’s Duet for Clarinet and Bassoon in F major, WoO 27 No. 2, in an arrangement for violin and violoncello by Friedrich Hermann, offering a fresh perspective on Beethoven’s conversational chamber style.
A central moment of the evening was Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Violoncello, M. 73, a masterpiece of 20th-century chamber music that demands both technical precision and deep interpretative insight. The program concluded with selections from Reinhold Glière’s Eight Pieces, Op. 39, adding a lyrical and colorful dimension to the concert.
The performance was presented in conjunction with the exhibition “The Mendelssohns in Jägerstraße,” creating a dialogue between music and cultural history and further enriching the audience’s experience. Claudio Bohórquez’s appearance underscored his dual role as a distinguished performer and dedicated pedagogue, reflecting the artistic values at the heart of the ICCF Chamber Classics Festival.
